This has been an effort to address our state’s own needs in a future crisis, by training crisis response therapy dogs. We can work together with our therapy dog teams to bring the healing needed – and often cheshired by those most in need.

Soul Friends, the first outpatient mental health nonprofit providing animal assisted therapy in all of New England, just completed its 8th year of service to children across the state of CT . Providing close to 5,000 children with quality individual therapy and results based group therapy programs. A history of collaboration with local universitites, including UCONN, SCSU, University of Hartford, Post Univeristy, and NYU at Long Island. In celebration of our success, we announce our new name Soul Friends, Inc : The Center for Human-Animal Kindness. This name change celebrates the mission of healing with the human-animal bond while also recognizing our work as a center of research and teaching.

Every day provides an opportunity for a lesson learned in my life living with 4 therapy dogs – today the lesson from Noah is REST. As someone living with a chronic illness, while also trying to run a nonprofit – my mind often forgets to slow down. My body provides the daily reminder to stop moving, but my mind never seems to rest.

Noah is a chocolate lab puppy mill dog now 6 years old. He loves his ball and loves to run on hikes. However, as he lays by my side today he is reminding me to REST and enjoy the moment.
